Laat staan mensen die goed ter been zijn hebben het er moeilijk mee
Tevens heerlijke gewaarwording
Dat fietsen langs je bus krassen maken.
Wordt er dan helemaal niet meer nagedacht.

Super mooi om al de verschillende vormen van kunst te zien. Heel inspirerend om de Bachelor en Master pieces te zien. Sommige getuigden echt van puur lef, puurheid, of inventiviteit.

I graduated in 2015 from the Fine Arts Department (BA) at the KABK and I have really enjoyed my study! My fellow students were mostly international so the lessons where in English. The facilities are good, the staff is great, the studios are nice, and there are many (guest)teachers. The Academy was beyond my expectations and has also been very welcoming the year after my graduation - when i needed to use the workshops or was invited for talks with artists and curators!
Big cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam are approximately 20-40 min. by train. The Hague has many nice exhibition spaces, museums, artist collectives, workshops, history, nature, beach etc. It is a great central place to live and work!

I was so lucky to go on a student exchange here about 26 years ago. I loved the screen printing,weaving and fashion projects I created. Also met a wonderful girl...Freya. She took me on her bike and we went to a commune. A great sense of freedom and life!

About 20 years ago, KABK was confused because of too many students. Everyone complained about limited work space and part-time teachers who hardly ever show up.
I was an artist in "Special Program", however no studio.

A new head teacher arrived, and many foreign students were rejected without proper discussion. I got the runaround during my stay (I assume that the academy just waited for my leaving). This means, they overturned a letter they sent, for their own convenience.

It happened long time ago, so I suppose they learned from past mistake. Still they shouldn't forget that hasty reform may affect someone's career seriously.

Local Guide

Part-time teachers with a part-time attitude will share their knowledge on how to struggle professionally.

I think that's the actual root of the problem : every teacher just comes to school for a few hours every week to give some consultation. Nobody is KABK-teacher first, that's just one of the 5 jobs they have; that leads to classes without preparation and courses without structure.

I've spoken to Furniture Design Graduates who haven't designed a single piece of furniture in 4 years of study. Same things I've heard about Interactive media. When you ask the question "do you feel well prepared for a career ? Do you feel like you can enter the workforce in a Studio after this ?" - I have not heard a single 'yes' .

I'm hugely disappointed, I started my master degree one year ago and the teaching Niveau is lower than the first semesters of my previous Bachelor.
The response I get when addressing this issue : "well, it's an art school. This is KABK" 🙁
3 out of 8 master students have dropped the programme.
