Really disappointed at this weekends competition. My daughter's dances were scheduled back to back so while trying to help my daughter and her dance team with changes, I ran to the auditorium to watch her dance while asking the doorman not to close the door as we approached, and he still closed the door, refused to let me in to watch my daughters dance, and had no problem when I asked to speak to his boss! Completely RUDE! Please get better staff with better attitudes! And the only reason I gave 1 star is because of Ebony, the lady working the concession stand, who was so nice and sweet, and aparentely working as an outside contractor!

However, the seating was the worst. Had to stand to view the stage. Nothing like Shake The Ground. Fusion shame on you, parents spends an awful lot of money and time.

My daughter’s dance company has attended this organization’s competition two years in a row. While the competition itself runs smoothly, and they implement fun and encouraging incentives for the dancers, they have created a system that allows for studios to cheat the adjudicated scoring system by having intermediate and recreational divisions. Every recreational dance routine I saw looked like it should have been an intermediate level, and most to all of the intermediate level group dances belonged in the elite division. That was obvious based on a combination of the dancers’ level of technique and number of group dances. As a mom of an older competitive dancer, I am well adept at knowing what kind of training is required to achieve more advanced dance technique skills. Fusion dance obviously does not verify these studios for their competition divisions, nor do they care. I checked one of the studios there that easily had a dozen group dances, if not more like fifteen. Their website openly states the required classes a company dancer has to take, which amounts to more than the maximum amount of hours an intermediate division level studio is allotted; that does not even account for the number of hours the dancers are required to practice all of these group dances. Each genre of dance has a one hour class per week. This studio requires their dancers to take seven different classes a week, which is a minimum of seven hours, and the intermediate division allows for a dancer to take four to six hours a week of instruction. In addition to that, all dancers are registered with the competition, and if that dancer’s name is entered into more than a few group dances, they are obviously receiving more than six hours of instruction per week. It is just so obvious and too easy to verify.

The motivation for these studios to lie about their division is that the intermediate division has a broader point range within the scoring system, making it easier for them to receive a higher adjudicated score. While it is the actual studio who is sandbagging, this organization is who makes that possible and obviously does nothing to prevent it from happening, making this organization itself, disreputable.
